Ron Heston - BOE Vice-President |
|
The Board of Education regretfully accepted Mr. Ron Heston’s resignation at their meeting on Monday, November 26th. The vote was 6-1, with Board of Education member Mr. Russell Hann symbolically voting not to accept Mr. Heston’s resignation in recognition of his sixteen (16) years of dedicated service to the school district. During Mr. Heston's tenure on the Board he served as vice-president for seven (7) years.
Mr. Heston's resignation was prompted by his recent election to the Southampton Township Committee. He will be sworn into his position as a township committeman in January.
Mr. Heston served two different terms on the Board of Education. His first term on the Board was from 1996 to 2004. His second term began in April 2005. Mr. Heston has served on the budget, personnel and negotiation committees. During his tenure on the Board, many enhancements have occurred in the district. These include the implementation of full day kindergarten, the installation of the elevator in School #1, increased instructional time, and the approval of a bond issue for major repairs and upgrades to the facilities. Mr. Heston also worked with the board and administration to receive a one time grant of over $200,000.00 that was used to replace old single pane windows with insulated windows, which provides the district greater savings over the years by reducing heating costs.
In addition, Mr. Heston is a Certificated School Board member as recognized by the New Jersey School Board Association and was a board member when it became a Certified School Board.
We thank him for his sixteen year of service to the students of Southampton and our school district and wish him well as a Southampton Township Committeeman..
In order to fill the vacancy, the Board of Education is accepting letters of interest from qualified residents until December 10, 2012. Interested individuals should include a summary of their qualifications with the letter. The Board will review the applications, interview selected candidates, and hopes to appoint the new Board of Education member at their meeting on December 17th.
