On Thursday, May 28th second, third, fourth and fifth grade students in the Southampton Township Enrichment Program (S.T.E.P) showcased projects they have been working on all year. This is the 4th annual “S.T.E.P. Night” created by teacher Jennifer Matthews to highlight the achievements and hard word these students do while attending the enrichment classes 3 periods a week.
2nd grade S.T.E.P. students showcased their code and cipher projects, which include making their own Program using 3 dimensional shapes. Pictures were also displayed of the 2nd grade S.T.E.P. trip to the Franklin Institute.
3rd grade S.T.E.P. students constructed toothpick windmills and their own structures in studying architecture’s 3 principles – being structurally sound, function and aesthetics. Third grade students also displayed several mock trials they read and pictures from their field trip to the Mt. Holly Courthouse and Prison Museum. Also, on display was the 5 books students read in preparation for the “Battle of the Books” competition which will be held on June 8, 2015 at Burlington Twp.
4th grade S.T.E.P. students created informational posters and 3D models of our solar system’s 13 planets. 4th graders also displayed their DaVinci parachutes and parachutes they made from household items (plastic bags, cups, sponges, etc.). Students will be testing out their homemade parachutes with the objective presented to them- Using household materials, design and create a parachute that will carefully and safely land a breakable object to the ground from various heights.
Students in 5th grade S.T.E.P. became ambassadors to a county and made a display that included brochures, food, maps, 3D objects, and other visual information. 5th grade S.T.E.P. students also showcased their e-paper and solar cell projects (windmills and vehicles). Also on display were catapults created from the “Catapult Challenge.”
Also on display was the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade WordMaster Challenge results, plants grown from seeds, and many brain teasers and riddles for S.T.E.P. family and friends to try out.
Special congratulations was also on display.
S.T.E.P. 3rd grader Brielle Bell for winning 2nd place in the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children’s writing contest.
S.T.E.P. 4th grader Juliana Zimm for winning 3rd place in the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children’s art contest.
S.T.E.P. 5th grader Alice Gaehring for winning 1st place in the Burlington County Law Day poster contest.
S.T.E.P. 5th grader Isabella Capraro for winning 3rd place in the Burlington County Law Day poster contest.
