The New Jersey Department of Education forwarded the data from the Spring 2015 administration of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) to school districts on November 23rd.
We have commenced an analysis of the results and a presentation was made to the Board of Education and community at the Board of Education meeting conducted on Monday, December 14, 2015. The Powerpoint presentation used at the meeting is attached to this article.
Overall, our school district is pleased with the initial results based on the fact that Southampton’s average scores and performance exceeded that of state results. However, we are cannot be satisfied or content with the results until we can increase the number of students scoring in level 4 (meeting expectations) and level 5 (exceeding expectations).
It important to note, that the New Jersey Department of Education is emphasizing to school districts that the first year’s results from the PARCC should be viewed as a new baseline for student performance. Districts should not attempt to draw comparisons to the former state assessment the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK), nor should they focus on their district’s performance as compared to other school districts in the state.
What we will focus on is analyzing the PARCC results and determining if there are areas of our written curriculum, pacing of curriculum, and instructional practices that need to be revised to assist us in further enhancing student performance.
Please note the school district is mailing home the Individual Score Reports (ISRs) to parents during the week of December 14-18. The ISR provides parents with performance information pertaining to their child including the level of performance and also how their child performed as compared to other students in the district and in the state.
The New Jersey Department of Education has produced a number of resources to assist parents and school districts in understanding the PARCC results. Please click on the following links to access the resources:
