On Friday, February 23, Southampton Schools welcomed New Jersey author Michael Rex. Mr. Rex has written and illustrated many books including, Goonight Goon. Mr. Rex did a presentation for students in grades K-4. This was the kickoff to our Read Across America celebration, which continued from February 26 to March 2.
School #1 and #2 students celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday week in style. Each day was themed to a Dr. Seuss book, and the students were asked to dress according to the theme.
Students celebrated reading and Dr. Seuss by dressing in PJs on Monday to represent The Sleep Book. Tuesday students dressed as their favorite book character for And to think I saw it on Mulberry Street, Wednesday was extra wacky as students read and dressed up for Wacky Wednesday. Tongues were twisted and socks were crazy on Thursday for Fox in Socks. Our final day of celebration students “spoke for the trees” and dressed in green for The Lorax.
Thank you to our school librarians, teachers, staff and PTA who helped to make the week such a success!
