Ms. Marie Phillips was elected to the Southampton School Board in 2017. This is her first term as a member of the School Board. Ms. Phillips will serve on the Curriculum and Policy Committee and will be a member of the Negotiations Team.
Ms. Phillips earned a BA in English and Psychology in 1984 from Trenton State College, a Supervisory Certificate from Rutgers in 1994, an Ed. S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from The College of New Jersey in 2001, and a Masters in Educational Administration from Rider University in 2002.
From 1984 to 1992, Ms. Phillips taught English and Psychology at Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, NJ. In 1992 she accepted a guidance counselor position at Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mt. Holly, NJ. In 1994, Ms. Phillips became the Supervisor of Guidance and served in this capacity from 1994 to 2002.
Ms. Phillips was appointed as the Assistant Principal for Student Services in 2002 at Rancocas Valley, a position she held until 2007. She left Rancocas Valley to become Principal of Burlington Township High School. Marie remained in that position until her retirement from public education in 2011.
From 2012 until the present, Ms. Phillips has been employed by the New Jersey Principal’s and Supervisor’s Association as a mentor for new school administrators, per the requirements of the New Jersey Department of Education. During this time, in her capacity as co-owner of the educational consulting firm Innovative Educational Options, LLC, she has also provided trainings for the Foundation for Educational Administration, the professional development branch of New Jersey Principal and Supervisors Association.
Ms. Phillips also coordinated the Burlington County School Crisis Response Team since her retirement and this included assisting our school district twice in dealing with student traumatic loss. She also was charged with the responsibility of creating and administering the Burlington County Professional Development Institute which provides educators throughout the county with a multitude of professional development opportunities each school year.
In addition to the work Ms. Phillips has done in education, she has also done volunteer work for The Society of St. Vincent DePaul in Medford, NJ and coordinated the collection of books for libraries for both men’s and women’s facilities in the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Marie also founded and administers the Burlington County Claus Project—which provides Christmas gifts to needy children in various school districts in Burlington County—and serves as Vice President for the Tranquility Ridge Homeowners’ Association.
Ms. Phillips and her husband Vincent reside in the Tranquility Ridge subdivision of Southampton Township. They are the proud parents of Patrick (a teacher in the Perth Amboy School District), Joshua (a Social Worker in Philadelphia) and Melissa (a professor at Oxford College in Georgia).
