Joe Straczynski is very excited to be joining the Southampton community as the new instrumental music teacher for School #2/#3! He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rowan University with degrees in Music Education, K-12 Subject Matter Education, and Jazz Performance. He has taught general, instrumental, and choral music at many different grade levels over the years in both public and charter school systems and also works annually at the Summer Jazz Camp at Rowan University as a counselor.
In addition to teaching, Joe maintains himself as an active freelance musician in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area. His major instrument is saxophone, and he has done work as a woodwind doubler on flute and clarinet as well. Joe has been formally trained in music composition and arrangement and has arranged horn section parts for several local bands. He also founded and runs "Sax Plus One," a small collective of jazz musicians who have played in area restaurants and events for several years.
When he isn't teaching or practicing music, Joe enjoys playing video games and spending time with his wife and dog, a black lab mix named Parker (after both the famous jazz musician Charles Parker and Spiderman's alter-ego, Peter Parker).
