The Southampton Township Committee recently determined that Church Street will be returned to one-way status effective August 20 2012. The Township issued the following memorandum pertaining to the change:
"For a number of years, the regulation of Church Street as a one-way street has not been enforced and the traffic control signs designating the street as one-way have not been in place. Due to several accidents and near accidents on Church Street, the Township Committee has determined a need to re-establish this street as one-way, as described in Chapter VII of the Township Code.
Effective Monday, August 20th, signage will be positioned to show the the corrected direction of traffic. A one-way sign will be placed at the intersection of Main Street and Church Street, another at the intersection of Brown's Alley and Church Street, and a sign at Church Street and Plum Street. A "One-way, Do Not Enter" sign will be placed at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Miss Mabel Drive, and "No Left Turn" signs will be placed at the intersections of Plum and Church and Browns Alley and Church and a "No Right Turn" sign will be posted at the intersection of Miss Mabel and Pleasant Street.
Even with the new, proper signage, please exercise caution especially over the next several weeks as drivers become accustomed to the correct flow of traffic" ------ Southampton Township Committee
