An invasion of dinosaurs descended upon the School #1 All-Purpose Room on Wednesday evening April 17th. Second grade students and their families filled the All-Purpose Room to capacity as they visited and viewed the “Dino-ramas” the students created as the culmination of their unit of study about dinosaurs.
All of the second grade classes have been learning about dinosaurs with instruction occurring across the entire curriculum. Science, mathematics, writing, and reading skills were taught using the topic of dinosaurs to motivate and inspire the students. Each second grader created a dinosaur factbook, and “Dino-rama” as part of the unit. The “Second Grade Dinosaur Show” is a School #1 tradition that the second graders eagerly look forward to every year.
Our kindergarten and first grade classes visit the All-Purpose room to view the displays and this serves to create interest for future years.
This year’s dinosaur show was exceptionally well attended. We were delighted to note how many parents took time out of their busy schedules to support their child’s academic efforts. Not only did parents support their children through attending the evening’s festivities, but also through taking the time to assist students in constructing the beautiful “dinoramas” that adorned the room.
This show would not be possible without the efforts of our 2nd grade teaching staff of Mrs. Brockson, Mr. Capocci, Mrs. Chapin, Ms. Matarese and Ms. Smith. As always the teachers went above and beyond the call of duty in order to provide this educational program for their students.
