On Friday, February 27th, Southampton Schools welcomed New Jersey author Audrey Vernick. Ms. Vernick, has authored numerous non-fiction as well as picture books. Ms. Vernick did a presentation for students in grades K-4. This was the kickoff to our Read Across America celebration, which continued from March 2-6.
School #1 students celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday in style. Each day was themed to a Dr. Seuss book, and the students were asked to dress according to the theme.
On Monday, March 2nd, it was "Fox In Socks Day" and students were encouraged to wear crazy or mismatched socks. Guest student readers from School #3 who read to each class.
Tuesday was “Mulberry Street Day” and our students dressed as their favorite storybook characters. The whole school paraded around in their fantastic costumes and Mrs. Janine Metzger, School #1 Music Teacher played "Dr. Seuss We Love You" over the loud speaker.
Wednesday March 4th, was “Cat in the Hat Day” and students were able to wear a favorite hat all day. The PTA Room Chaperones provide Seuss-themed cupcake treats. How delicious!
Thursday was “Lorax Day”. Students were encouraged to wear green. The afternoon was filled with fun multi-class activities including paired reading, games, and writing.
We concluded the week with “I’m Not Going to Get Up Today Day”. Staff and students enjoyed a cozy day of warm pajamas and special surprise readers. Many retired Southampton teachers came back to share a favorite book with our classes. A wonderful time was had by all students as well as the staff.
