All of our 4th and 5th grade Southampton Township Enrichment Program (S.T.E.P.) students competed in the annual Burlington County Law Day Art Contest. The contest was open to 4th and 5th grade students across Burlington County. There were hundreds of entries from students throughout the county and Southampton had two of the top three winners in this year's contest. Fifth graders, Alice Gaehring and Isabella Capraro took first and third place honors.
The 2015 Law Day Art Contest theme was “MAGNA CARTA: SYMBOL OF FREEDOM UNDER LAW”. The artwork was judged by a Law Day special committee. The committee utilize the following criteria: • originality • creativity • how well the theme was expressed • readability of work and • visual impact
First, Second and Third Place Prizes were presented with prize checks provided by the Burlington County Bar Association as well as a plaque and an Olympic-style medallion. (First place $200; Second place--$100 and Third Place--$50). The winners, their families, and school administration went to an AWARD CEREMONY on May 29, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at the Courthouse which included a special program and refreshments.
Alice Gaehring, the Law Day Art winning student, Mrs. Matthews and Alice’s class are invited to the Court’s celebration of Constitution Day by participating in the Citizen Naturalization Ceremony in September, 2015 (date to be set).
The names of the winners and their artwork will be displayed in the Burlington County Courthouse throughout the year, as well as published in the court newsletter, The Court Crier, and the Bar Association newsletter, The Straight Word.
